Associations in Brief

Universities, as the main center for specialized manpower and science nurturing and generation in the world, play a unique role in international scientific interactions. Various global universities’ collaboration in the framework of the systems, enjoying united goals, is necessary for such interactions to be successful. The background of scientific associations’ launching dates back to earlier 17th century A.D., when the scholars and philosophers were forming gatherings to have scientific debates to keep each other abreast about of the latest scientific and research activities’ outcomes.
In the recent years, Islamic Azad University- IAU has paida serious and profound attention to the matter of associations’ membership and currently is a member of some reputable and worldwide university associations. Some of the associations are listed below:         
          FUIW: The Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World (FUIW) was founded in Morocco in 1987, with members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in attendance. This organization came into being with the stated aim of supporting universities and higher education institutions in their mission to train both wise and qualified human resources to serve the Islamic nations. Since its inception, over 278 universities from the four corners of the world have joined the Federation. Islamic Azad University (IAU) served as the chairman of the Executive Council in the Federation for nine consecutive years.
          IAU: Founded in 1950, the International Associations of Universities is one of the most well-known and prestigious university associations. The IAU is based in Paris and is located at the headquarters of UNESCO. Its mission is based on the principles of the right to gain knowledge and tolerating differing views and avoiding involvement in political disputes.
          IAUP: Founded in 1965 at Oxford University in Britain, the primary mission of the International Associations of University Presidents is to improve the quality of higher education. IAUP also sets out to promote global awareness and competence as well as peace and international understanding through education.
          IATUL: The IAU is also a member of the International Association of Scientific & Technological University Libraries (IATUL). Founded in Dusseldorf, Germany in May 1955, IATUL provides the possibilities for members to participate in annual conferences, combine the efforts to create synergies, develop collaborative approaches to solve common problems, encourage international cooperation as well as establish a worldwide library network.
          AUAP: The Association of Universities of Asia and the Pacific (AUAP) has contributed to the strengthening of the international mission and quality of education of its member institutions and has grown to become an association of around 218 members from over 19 countries.
          ASAIHL: IAU is a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Institutions of Higher Learning (ASAIHL). Most recently the president of IAU was elected as a member in ASAIHL’s Board of Trustees. IAU is the only member university from Iran among other 197 members in this association and Dr. H. Mirzadeh, the IAU’s president, also elected as the Vice-President and the Chairman of Funding Committee at the ASAIHL. The Islamic Azad University will be hosting the first 2015 ASAIHL Conference on 22-25 May in Isfahan branch.
